I realize the younger set of gay men that I meet and know, they walk about like proud peacocks, not knowing what to do with all of their feathers except make a fuss and cause unnecessary commotion. I realize now that their constant arrogance, disrespect, and belief that they are right, that their way is the only way– that their definition of self aware is really self absorption, especially when they can’t even return a simple phone call or text. They’ll learn eventually. Their bravado is just their fear being expressed. Let them make their mistakes. Someday, they will realize what they lost– what they let slip away. This whole time I was afraid to lose them, but in reality, I watched them losing me…ah, youth!

And I haven’t peaked yet. There’s still work to be done, stories to tell, and regardless of aches and pains I’ve accumulated, they are the medals of honor earned to leap forward into the 2020’s. Through bad leadership, pandemics, that shit don’t scare us. We (my like minded and aged brothers and sisters) are pioneers. We have fought for our rights, we have fought for our equality. We have seen our gay brothers and sisters lose their battles, but we fight on and continue towards a better life– not just for us, and not just for them, but also for everyone! We ought to be grateful, thankful, and completely blessed with the knowledge, that we have been a part of history, part of the landscape that makes gay men beautiful and special, and we are the example to show that the next generation can also be proud of who they are and where they’ve come from because we care about people, we care about humanity. We care about love, AND we know what love is. It’s not just getting our rocks off and being seemingly validated through endless amounts of non intimate sex…..

Be proud, my friends. We are truly innovators, historians, and storytellers. The world is nothing without our perspective…. and we still have lots to do, so let’s do it! Let’s concentrate on making America really great again, win back our White House for everyone, and live our very best lives. I love you all. We all are angels, destined to inspire, and instill hope into the future generations of gay men– hoping that they will honor and respect the heritage they come from. Because as it states in other cultures, being gay is a blessing, not a curse….and we must spread this blessing to show the world that love is the only answer to every question. It solves every problem and it leaves behind growth, change, and joy. How lucky are we to be given such power!?! Do you know how sad that many of these up and comers don’t even know what love is?!! Our job is not nearly done!

Who am I?

I’m the one who will be there for you, whether you need me or not. I’m the one who has already thought about you by the time you awaken and will continue to think of you long after you fall asleep. I think about how you’re going about your day, wishing I was there to hold your hand to let everyone know how much I love you. I’m the one who will stock my refrigerator with your favorite things. I’m the one who will put my grocery cart, as well as yours, at the kiosk in the parking lot– and probably one or two others along the way….

The world is a beautiful place– even more so because you’re in it. I wonder how many lucky souls get to see your smile or get to hear your voice– what a wonderful impact you make not only in my life, but everyone that cares to know you like I do.

The very tears you cry, I have shed too. As happy as you make me feel, I can’t help but be sad when you’re melancholy or having a bad day. What a joy it would be to cheer you up, make you feel better, help you realize that you’re truly amazing. But I want you to know that just as much as I do.

Your intelligence is regal; your sense of humor tickles me; and the trust with your emotions that you bestow upon me is something I will always treasure and keep safe. There isn’t another soul I would want to do this for.

Why? Because it’s you. Somehow, you found me when I needed to be reminded that I, too, was remarkably special. If I had been told I was kind before, now I am downright altruistic. If people gravitated to me before, I’m a big powered magnet. If people tell me I have a great smile, you are part of why it shines and beams with such joy.

And yet, you don’t know I’m alive…. well, that’s not true. You know I’m alive. You’re just don’t wish to pay attention to me. We haven’t met yet. I’m everything that you want, but afraid to accept. You think so poorly of yourself, you’d rather commiserate with fellows lower than you on the totem pole or the food chain. You’re so wrapped up in the silence from them, that the silence you give me, breaks my heart.

“Silence is the best answer to someone who doesn’t value your words.”

I accept you for who you are. I allow myself to be the subject of your abuse– the same abuse you have felt from others, but never from me. When you realize your mistakes, it’ll be too late. I am stronger than you give me credit for. In order to be this strong, I also must know how vulnerable I can be. I feel everything from despair to ecstacy, and still I have time to be kind to a fellow human being and care for the needs of others, you, and as well as myself.

Who am I? I am the amazing human being you let go. I gave you every reason in the world to want me but it’s the same reasons that made you a coward and dismiss me. I am a knight in shining armor. I am a frightened little boy. I am magnanimous and the life of the party. I am insecure and a recluse. I am the one who would never allow anyone, including yourself, to hurt you. I am the man of your dreams.

Life is too short. If you can’t realize how amazingly fantastic of a human being I am, how I would rather die, than hurt you….if you cannot recognize the worth I have in this world, may God grant me someone who does and allow me to feel for them the same way. Never looking back.

Who am I? The answer to your prayers…. the one who wishes nothing but the best for you– even if that doesn’t include me. I’m am more than you deserve, yet you’re all that I want. I’m happy with the company I keep, whether I’m with you or alone.

Who am I? I am the one who makes your eyes roll into the back is your head with a single kiss. My beard, against your skin makes you quiver. My body against yours makes you moan with delight. We are one when we f*ck… we watch the sun set and we watch it rise with every action, toy, drop of sweat, spit, and every other liquid we produce and share. We were made for each other, looking forward to the next time, and the next….

Who am I? A man who wouldn’t trade lives with a single soul, because the very years, months, days, and seconds I exist, I love. I love every part of life, and I wish to share it with the world. I can’t help but be happy no matter what. So, why are you afraid? Your life is safe with mine. I am a gift, a treasure, a necessity. Every day you refrain from my love, is a day lost—never to come back again.

Who am I?

I am strength. I am joy. I am talented. I am funny. I am caring. I am vulnerable. I am devoted. I am freedom. I am love.

I am yours.

We show love with action–even if the action is to do nothing and give space to the other.

We learn to trust when when the intentions of the other prove their words by offering proof, leaving the person in high regard for delivering on their ability to be trusted.

If the same mistake repeats itself over and over, you are not sorry–you are continuing the manipulation.

We are all attracted to, as well as turned off by, various things about other people. And the things that stand out the most to us are the things that remind us the most of ourselves. This is because other people are like mirrors for us: if somebody bugs you, you are projecting onto them something that you don’t like about yourself, and if they’re awesome, they’re reflecting back something that you see in yourself that you like (even if it’s not developed in you yet).

Some people like to call it, “calling someone out,” I like to call it holding someone else accountable for their action. If something is hurting me emotionally or even physically, I’m going to tell the other person not to do that in order for the other person to understand what that action does: it hurts me, therefore, telling them, hopefully will insure they won’t make the same mistake again, and then all could be understood. It’s not a judgement; it’s not anything other than holding the other person accountable for their actions and their behavior.

On the other hand, if they don’t express themselves to the other person, and they hold on to the anger, the bitterness, the insurmountable injustice of what is being done to them, what do you think the outcome will be when an argument begins? Something that happened weeks ago will become the most tantamount aspect of the argument, when all along, it should have been discussed at the time that it happened. That’s how we avoid. That’s how we avoid conflict…It all depends on the delivery. It also depends on the manner that is expressed; but wouldn’t it be nice if someone, let’s say, scares you, they get great satisfaction out of it but you abhor it. The best thing to do is to say, “I’m sorry but I don’t like being scared because…” anybody who is decent will understand and say, “I’m sorry, I won’t ever do that again,” because it’s the other person’s wish and if we don’t respect people that we are in relationships with, we are not in relationships! We are trying to manipulate and control somebody else.

I had said earlier, people are mirrors and for some reason if a person doesn’t like your kindness, it’s because they lack kindness themselves. What if somebody accused you, whether it be cheating, lying, or losing something of value? The accuser most likely has cheated or is cheating. The same goes with the liar. Why would you think I’m lying? But the fact that they think that you are says that they’re capable of doing it themselves. And it’s usually the things that we don’t like about ourselves, we’ll do them anyway so if anybody is accusing you of cheating that person should really deal with their own fidelity issues.

Bottom line, if something bothers you when you’re in a relationship with someone you should be able to communicate your feelings to the other person without any kind of judgment–without any kind of taking it personally, and through the art of communicating and understanding, that’s how relationships grow. That’s how relationships become strong.

My mother and father were married for 65 years. If they broke up over an argument oh, I don’t think they would have made it past their honeymoon! One of the best stories that I remember growing up, I remember my mother and father arguing and at one point my mother called my father stupid. Now my father’s side of the family is Polish, therefore, anything that was relatable to a Polish joke, a pollock was considered less than another human being or wasn’t smart enough, we would take offense. My father was so hurt mother’s accusation, he walked right up to her and, oh my goodness what’s going to happen, he took his forefinger put it right up to his face in between his face and hers, and said, “if I’m stupid, then why did I marry you?” He turned around and walked away and my mother was left there with her mouth gaping open and realized what a hurtful thing she had said. Now, my mother who the alpha, but she had to follow him around for a couple of days before he could let it go. Ultimately, they both talked, respected each other’s boundaries, and they survived. Thank goodness. But if the arguing continues to plague and torture the two parties, one has two choices: keep playing the game, or stop the game dead in its tracks.

Sometimes you have to pull yourself away from the table when love is no longer being served.

This has been such a crazy and strange time for all of us. When the quarantine began I honestly thought that this was going to bring people closer together. I didn’t realize how much further separated we are as a group of people, as a community, a race, as an entity. Why in an age of all this turmoil and struggle and evil and negative crap do we have to fight with each other? I don’t understand.

It’s when someone will tell you that friendship is a two-way street, yet they do nothing to perpetuate that friendship– AND they have the gall and the nerve to say it. Whatever happened to being true to your word? Whatever happened to accepting responsibility when you’ve done something wrong? When does the day begin when we stop blaming our past for the present?

All this talk about taking care of self is the biggest crock of bologna because many who are on this kick, do not apply it with other people in their daily lives– therefore, their idea of self aware is actually self absorption. They have no idea how other people are suffering. And as adults, we’re supposed to look out for each other! Why aren’t we doing this? Everyone might be happy with their immediate family of two, three, or eight, but what about the bigger picture?

A friend of mine is reopening his hair salon after having been unemployed and having had no work for several months. What he wants to do is, one day a month, offer free hair service to essential workers that have been helping throughout this crisis. I think that’s such a beautiful idea and something that I have not heard about yet from other establishments, but in this day and age we need to not be so greedy and so selfish–we need to look out for each other.

But I also don’t seem to understand is that if it doesn’t affect them personally many people don’t believe that it exists. It’s like that politician that has been against gay rights all of his life until his lesbian daughter comes out to him and therefore he now has this epiphany that gay rights is important. Again, when we’re dealing with humanity, we all breathe the same air, eat in order to survive, cry, laugh, pee and shit, so why would we treat people with any kind of unkindness? If we remember that everybody has a story and everybody has a place that they come from and we don’t know where that place is and how many miles they’ve walked in their shoes, so why be mean? Why be an asshole? It’s bad enough that we have been sequestered in our homes and forced to be alone or with our own immediate families for this long. In time the art of social anything is going to go out the window. We have to remember and that’s why I asked everybody who read my blog to please do a good deed every single day– remember the people who are important to you; remember that there are people that are important that you don’t think of all the time and they would really like to hear from you. There’s nothing worse than finding out that someone you know has died of the coronavirus and you have to attend their funeral via Zoom. It’s heartbreaking it’s disgusting. We have to change our attitude.

And why does it take tragedy in order to bring people together? Why do we have to have Black Lives Matter when someone is killed? Black Lives Matter every single day– All Lives Matter every single day. We shouldn’t have to rally against each other to prove that the other not only exists, that they also deserve the same joys and love and happiness as everybody else. To me, it’s a no-brainer. Why do we have prejudice? Why do we have such hatred for our fellow human brothers and sisters?

We need to find what keeps us together, what nurtures and feeds our souls. Love is the answer. I don’t wish on anyone to be dismissed, abused, abandoned or neglected. To those who have, you’re not alone. We need to seek each other out. For those who do this to others, I pray for a speedy slap of reality in your faces to realize how horrible you are.

Please, find joy in yourselves, and in each other. We need kindness to come back in full force. Everyone who is highly religious sometimes forgets there’s a little something called “Love Thy Neighbor as Yourself.” Do it. You have a responsibility to your fellow man, to yourself, to your ancestors. Be the example; be the change. Our lives might have changed forever because of this virus and because of the unrest that is happening in the world right now, we have to learn to live despite these roadblocks and we have to do it together otherwise we will cease to exist.

Always The optimist, I will approach my life everyday with love, bless those that were unable to accept mine or were unable to to give love, and I know that I can always walk away saying that I did my best; I did what was right and I didn’t hurt anybody along the way.

☆On the 19th of every month, my buddy Cooper is giving free hair services to essential workers. His salon, Bounce, is located at 127 E. 59th St. Suite 4.

On a side note, the task of doing a daily blog is absolutely overwhelming. Therefore, in the annals of sanity, I will offer a couple of blogs a week. I will still ask for Good Deeds daily; I will still highlight birthdays and historical info daily but I will only do the blogs at the beginning of the week and somewhere toward the end, but I will always announce it on Facebook or just tune in– you never know.. I may be inspired! Thank you for your understanding, for your patience, and for your love.

XOXOX

GOOD DEEDS FOR THE WEEK

Hold the door open for another and let them ahead of you.

Grab an item high or low on the shelf who needs it.

Research in your area a non profit service organization–a place that resonates to you. What could you do for them? Donate money, your time, clothing or food items. Do something for this organization.

Write a letter and mail it to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Make their day.

Contact a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while and talk on the phone.

Offer to run an errand for a neighbor or go with them if they need your assistance.

  Tell someone you love them.

I’m happy to say that doing a good deed everyday has made me happier, I don’t sweat the small stuff as much, and each person was visibly touched by the kindness–they became happier too.

SPREAD LOVE, NOT HATE, NOT APATHY, SPREAD LOVE
